It gives me great pleasure to rise today to inform this house that Phyllis Horne has been named the new Board Chair of Health PEI.
Phyllis has served on the board for the last three years and brings a depth of knowledge and experience to the role of Board Chair.
She is a retired educator, she has a Masters of Education in Leadership and Learning from UPEI and worked with the Western School Board for 38 years as a classroom teacher, special education/resource teacher and administrator. From 2007-2009, she served as the President of the Prince Edward Island Teachers’ Federation.
Phyllis has played an active role as a member of the Health PEI Board of Directors since her appointment in 2010. During this time, she has served on all Board Committees and has chaired the Nominations Task Group and Nominations Task Group.
With the appointment of Ms. Horne to the chair position, there is now a vacancy on Health PEI’s board.
The Board uses a competency based, public and transparent recruitment and nomination process which takes into consideration gender, geography, language and ethnicity as factors in a balanced Board.
I encourage anyone who is interested in becoming a member of the Health PEI Board to visit www.healthpei.ca/boardrecruitment. Applications to Health PEI’s Board of Directors can also be made anytime through Participate PEI.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Phyllis on her new role and I look forward to working with the board to fulfill our shared goal of better access and better care for all Islanders.
