Madam Speaker our government is committed to providing patients with the right care, by the right provider, in the right place.
Thanks to our Better Access, Better Care initiatives, Islanders in West Prince are receiving more timely access to quality care.
These initiatives have stabilized health care services in West Prince, providing residents with improved access to emergency and primary health care services.
In November, our government restored round-the-clock emergency medical care to Western Hospital when the Collaborative Emergency Centre was opened.
Residents of West Prince now have consistent and reliable access to emergency services at Western Hospital.
A huge benefit of the Collaborative Emergency Centre is that physicians who work at the emergency department and operate a family practice are now able to better balance their time.
Physicians, with the support of two nurse practitioners, have provided an additional 796 patient appointments since November, compared to the same time last year.
Improved access to health care services in the West Prince region has been further supported by the 811 telehealth service. Launched in September, the 24-hour telehealth service has received nearly 8,800 calls from Islanders.
Staffed by a registered nurse, the service improves access to quick, quality health advice.
Madam Speaker, together, these initiatives are providing residents of West Prince with better access to better care.
My department will continue to make strategic investments to ensure continued access to quality care for all Islanders. Thank you.
