The introduction of kindergarten to the school system continues to be a positive experience … and is providing children and families with a full-day kindergarten program with more access to school resources and supports.
As the first year of public kindergarten continues, it is now time for Islanders to begin looking forward to next year.
It is very important to register your child this week to ensure school boards have an accurate picture on the number of new students for the 2011-2012 school year.
Madam Speaker, Children turning five by December 31st 2011 start Kindergarten in 2011.
You may register your child for kindergarten by visiting your local elementary school this week (Monday, November 15 – Friday, November 19).
Students of Elm Street School can register at the Western School Board office on MacEwen Road in Summerside.
Madam Speaker, If parents of students in the Eastern School District are not able to visit a school this week, they can call their local elementary school and register over the phone.
It is not necessary to bring your child with you; however, you will be required to provide the school with their child’s birth certificate and proof of permanent address.
Registration will continue at school board offices; however, parents are encouraged to register their child this week.
Madame Speaker, the Government of Prince Edward Island continues to invest in early learning as part of its Preschool Excellence Initiative which is the largest investment in the educational system in the modern history of our province.
I encourage all parents to register eligible kindergarten students this week to ensure the school boards are able to prepare for the upcoming year.
Families will be invited to their school to participate in the Welcome to KindergartenTM workshops in the spring of 2011 to meet their kindergarten teacher, school principal and other school staff.
