I was pleased to bring forward amendments to the Credit Unions Act during this fall sitting. These amendments were requested by the Credit Union system to enable PEI Credit Unions to become members of a new regional Atlantic Central.
The regional central will provide enhanced financial, operational and information services to our PEI Credit Unions. I am advised that all ten Island Credit Unions voted unanimously to move to an Atlantic Central, recognizing the potential benefits this amalgamation has to offer.
The Island credit union system has been an integral player in building the financial health of this province. A provincial network of Credit Unions offers financial and related services to more than 63,000 Islanders throughout our One Island Community from Tignish to Souris.
I want to take this opportunity to recognize each one of the ten owners of Credit Union Central.
