To the power of ten community people who saved Simmonds arena and launched the "Save Simmonds" campaign.
Dropped into the gorgeous new Simmons Arena this morning and got a chance to see what a facility it is for our youth. As I was walking through the state of the art arena I remembered all the controversy in the early stages on the debate of the location with the new location. I want to acknowledge the “10” individuals who rallied the community voices and provided the leadership to create the “Save Simmons” Campaign. To the “power of ten” with out them we would not have this arena in the heart of the community who are KJ White, Dunstan Carroll, Mitchell Tweel, Carl Pursey, Keith Ford, Cali Simmons, Pat Morris, Olin Penner, Mark Fisher and Shadi Shahaley. This group of local residents made their voices known and rallied huge support on the importance of keeping Simmons in the same location in the hub of the community. As opposed to a push to a significant push to move to UPEl. I have a life time of memories like so many from April Wine concerts, Spud Hockey Tournaments, Sunday skates and running our CURJAM Hockey School in the old Simmons. A new era has begun in our community with Simmons in its rightful home in the heart of our community. With it will bring new memories and a renewed sense of community that has been reborn. To all the voices who were part of the “Save Simmons” campaign I say well done.
